We investigated temperature rise generated due to presence of a titanium rod. Electromagnetic and thermal simulations were performed for continuous wave and pulsed excitations. If pulse duration is comparable with thermal time constant of a given setup radio frequency induced heating during magnetic resonance imaging can be significantly higher. If pulse duration is significantly less than the thermal time constant difference between continuous wave and pulsed excitation is negligible.
