Implications of Using kW-level GaN Transistors in Radar Systems (1161)

This paper presents a novel gate-pulsing system that overcomes both the shot noise and efficiency reduction problems resulting from the necessary high Idq associated with kW-level pulsed GaN transistors. It requires only a single positive supply voltage for the entire amplifier, and provides fail-safe biasing of the transitor.
