Limiting catalytic reactions involved in energy-relevant process include the two electrons reduction of protons to hydrogen gas, the selective reduction of oxygen to water,2 and photo-assisted uphill reactions.3 We have introduced complexes of corroles with first-row transition and post-transition metal ions that may resolve critical issues involved in these electro- and photo-catalytic processes. This is accompanied with mechanism of action studies, for assisting in the design of optimally performing catalysts, achieved by variations in the identity of M, X, and Ar in the structure of the complexes.
