Utilization of Coral Derived Collagen Fibers for ACL Reconstruction

Naturally occurring soft coral collagen fibers demonstrate unique tensile strength and elasticity characteristics. These are utilized in development of a medical implant for reconstruction of human anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL). The high tensile strength of the implant provides needed mechanical support to withstand pressures in the environment of the knee. At the same time, the collagenous material is designed to promote complete regeneration of the ligament tissue. Exceematrix has implanted the coral derived ligaments in big animals (goats) and followed results for safety and efficacy.
