Tobias Knoch
German Olympic Academy, Germany

The NOC`s role is: to promote the fundamental principles and values of Olympism in their countries, in particular, in the fields of sport and education, by promoting Olympic educational programs in all levels of schools, sports and physical education institutions and universities, as well as by encouraging the creation of institutions dedicated to Olympic education, such as National Olympic Academies, Olympic Museums and other programs, including cultural ones, related to the Olympic Movement` (Excerpt from the Olympic Charter Nowadays). More than 140 Olympic Academies try to implement these tasks on a national level. The Olympic movement in Germany started as early as the 1960s and eventually resulted in the foundation of the German Olympic Academy (DOA) in 2007. The DOA is committed to the promotion of sports in its different shapes and structures, and in particular to the Olympic movement. In many educational proposals, such as the development of measures and working materials on Olympic education, and various events and trainings, the DOA focuses on the manifold historical, economic political and social aspects of the Olympic movement. Its strategy is to familiarize many different groups with the dissemination of the Olympic idea and the promotion of its values.
