Nutritional Recommendations for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention: 2015 Update (On Behalf of the Experts Committee, The Israeli Heart Society and Israeli Dietitians)

Lifestyle factors, including nutrition, play an important role in the etiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This lecture summarizes recent updates of a joint position paper from the Israel Heart Association and the Israel Dietetic Association. The position paper summarizes current literature on the association of nutrition and CVD, with emphasis on the quality of evidence and practical recommendations. Nutritional information is divided into three sections: dietary patterns, individual food items, and nutritional supplements. Issues related to dietary patterns will include low fat/low cholesterol diet and vegetarian diets. Current information on eggs and dairy products will be presented, and supplements such as antioxidants and calcium will be reviewed.
