Daily physical activity and exercise prevent disease, especially hypokinetic diseases, and promote an individual`s total well-being. There are many recommended modules and packages of physical activity and exercise for all age groups. In recent years, different nations have developed very attractive and feasible physical activities and exercises as medicine to the body, brain, heart, mind and other physiological systems.

The purpose of this thematic paper is to highlight and give emphasis on daily physical activity for fitness and health and its promotion among sedentary people of different age groups.

For children 0-5 years, floor-based movements in a safe environment are recommended. Toddlers (1-3 years) and pre-schoolers (3-5 years) should be kept physically active every day for three hours spread over a day. For 5-12 year-olds, a combination of moderate and vigorous activities for at least 45-60 minutes a day is recommended. For 12-18 year-olds, at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day is recommended.

For adults, variety is important in providing a range of fun experiences and challenges, providing an opportunity to learn new skills. For older citizens, it’s never too late to start becoming physically active and to feel the associated benefits. Most physical activities can be adjusted to accommodate older people with a range of abilities and health problems. Older people should do some form of physical activity – at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most, preferably all, days.
