For the last 3 years, hundreds of severely injured children and adults, not military, but civilian casualties of a civil war were admitted to our hospital from the neighboring country, Syria. Although they were treated according to the most advanced principles of military trauma management, unfortunately, a majority of them had already appeared with severe bone infection due to lack of appropriate initial care and late transfer to the hospital after injury. A hexapod-type of circular external fixation was used in the most complicated cases with severe infection and bone loss. The purpose of this study was to review different aspects of the treatment of severe military injuries using several illustrative cases.
