Jochewed Schwarz
The Felicja Blumental Music Center and Library

In honor of the 70 anniversary of the death of Bronislaw Huberman, 17 June 1947-2017

  1. The paper will be based on findings from the archives at the Felicja Blumental Music Center and Library in Tel Aviv.
  1. Presenting concerts (performances) and educational activities documented in the archives.

Bronislaw Huberman in Palestine, solo concerts 1928 – 1940. Places, Programs, Reviews.

Huberman is well known for his dedication and devotion to create the PSO, now known as the IPO. Less is known about the concerts he gave, mostly accompanied by a pianist, in towns large and small and in settlements around Palestine.

Joachim Stuschewsky`s educational commitment and work with and for children.

He was often invited to play for the children of one of the first kindergartens in Tel Aviv, Tsipora Wolfson`s Kindergarten. Tsipora, a musician herself, insisted on receiving a special budget in order to employ a musician who would teach music and accompany the children in their singing. Wolfson had a long collaboration with St who visited the kindergarten often, playing for the children; he also created music for children.

Herman Jadlowker`s tutorial mission. As Stutschewsky did, Jadlowker, a well- known opera singer and cantor, made Aliya in 1938. He taught at the music academy in Jerusalem at first and then moved to Tel Aviv to open an opera studio. He helped Mordechai Golinkin with his plans to open a national opera house, but this plan never came to fruition.

  1. Mapping the various activities (concerts, workshops etc.) during the early "Yishuv" years, the first half of the 20th century in Palestine and in neighboring countries, through concert programs, newspapers reports and reviews, pictures regarding musical and music-educational activities; and analyzing their impact on the settlers according to their feedback (personal letters and diaries).

  1. Music and music education both had a special and large impact on the quality of life in the society undergoing years of crisis.

  1. This life experience can be used as a source of inspiration as well as an example of how to establish and develop a musical and music-educational tool-box and emergency plan of events and coordination to be carried out during times of conflict.
