Poly substituted furans and benzofurans are highly important class of heterocycles which possess biologically active characteristics and synthetic importance. These highly valuable components have a complex structural motif and the synthesis of such, in a simple and straight forward manner remains a desired goal for synthetic chemists over the years. In this work, we demonstrate direct synthesis of tetra and tri - substituted furans and substituted benzofurans derived from b-ketosulfoxide and 1,3-dicarbonyl derivatives or phenols respectively. In both heterocycles full control on the different substituents can be achieved depend on the selected reactant`s structure.
