An Iron catalysed consecutive oxidative cross-coupling reactions between single biphenolic units and nucleophilic arenes is presented, offering a direct entry to complex phenolic oligomers. The direct impact of different types of substituents on each phenol ring of the biphenolic unit on the reaction regioselectivity (ortho, para or meta) and chemoselectivity (C-coupling or O-coupling) was examined.
