Isaac of Corbeil wrote his accessible work of law, the Semak, for the learned and the laypeople alike. In my paper I will explore Isaac’s religious and pietistic world and demonstrate how he managed to formulate his religious ideals in a way that would appeal to a diverse audience of readers. My emphasis will be on the laypeople since one can assume that they would be less receptive to an extreme pietistic agenda, in contrast to certain members of the elite learned class.
