Death Impurity and the Expression ṭame’ l’nefesh

This paper will explore the conceptual background of corpse pollution in the Hebrew Bible based on biblical and ancient Near Eastern evidence. In particular, it will examine the meaning of the expression ṭame’ l’nefesh in light of the occurrences of cognate terms from funerary contexts from the Levant.
