I intend to address the question whether Shlomo Almoli (ca. 1485-1542), probably stemming from Sefarad, who lived and published in Salonika and Constantinople, was a child of his time. On the one hand he saw himself as a Kabbalist in the Spanish tradition, interested in divine revelations in the form of dreams, on the other hand he was open to science. In the context of his thinking, redemption through knowledge and mysticism play an important role, as well as ethical behaviour. How and in how far Almoli may be considered some kind of forerunner of the Safedian Kabbalists with these ideas is the second part of the topic.
