The digital age has provided the capabilities to create significantly higher quality editions of classical Torah commentaries and to make them readily available to the general public in a new and comprehensive electronic Mikraot Gedolot. Easy access to thousands of digital manuscripts has facilitated the reconstruction of portions of long lost commentaries of R. Yosef Kara and Rashbam and the discovery of hundreds of previously unknown updates of Rashi and Ibn Ezra to their commentaries. Concomitantly, electronic publication of the texts allows for user customization, so that much more data can be provided in a helpful and non-encumbering format. The e-Mikraot Gedolot also readily enables scholarly collaboration and continuous modification and improvement of the texts.
