Organic nanoparticles (ONPs) prepared via the intramolecular cross-linking of single polymer chains pose promising prospects for various applications.1-4 We have recently developed an intramolecular single chain collapse approach for the synthesis of organometallic nanoparticles using ROMP-derived polycyclooctadiene (PCOD) and the direct ligand exchange of Rh(I), Ir(I) and Ni(0) complexes.5-6 This methodology was further expanded for the preparation of high MW ONPs from commercially available polybutadiene.7 Herein, the use of commercial polyisoprene as an alternative precursor for the preparation of ONPs will be examined. In addition, we present our current efforts towards the preparation of catalytically active Rh(II)-ONPs by the exchange of trifluoroacetate ligands in Rh2[TFA]4 with the -COOH groups of ROMP- derived polymers.
