Grammatical fragments from “Books within Books”

The grammatical fragments discovered in the various libraries and archives are a supplementary source for our knowledge of book production in the Middle Ages. Although they are not frequent – two fragments out of 232 in Bologna, for example – they nevertheless give us valuable information about the dissemination and the fate of the main linguistic works. In this paper, I will give an overview of the grammatical fragments found in the European libraries (number, text, origin) and will compare the data with those collected from the Catalogue of Hebrew manuscripts (NLI).
