The Visual, Artistic, and Symbolic Presence of the Hebrew Bible in the Medieval Manuscripts

Sonia Fellous
IRHT, CNRS

The study of the Bible has been at the center of medieval intellectual interest in the Mediterranean world. Scripture itself, its translation, commentaries and illustrations represent a large part of the production of the medieval book. The purpose of this conference is to present the treatment of "biblical material" in the non-biblical medieval manuscripts produced by the three monotheisms and to analyze the context and motivations of these insertions.
