The paper will review the reasons for the disappearance of Ladino as a vivid and living language and will highlight the entrance of the French language into Sephardic communities in the Eastern Mediterranean basin. In addition, it will also deal with the catastrophe of the Holocaust and "negation of exile" in Israel as major influential factors. The paper will also analyze the film Father Language (Israel 2006) as representing the Ladino culture of which it consists
