Over the last decade we have focused on the Mn-tmtacn (N,N’N”-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) family of catalysts1 for a wide range of oxidative transformations ranging from cotton and wood pulp bleaching2 to epoxidation and cis-dihydroxylation of alkenes,3-5 including the first manganese catalyzed asymmetric cis-dihydroxylation of alkenes.6 In this presentation we report the applications of these catalysts for selective oxidation of organic substrates with multiple oxidation sensitive functional groups including alcohols, aldehydes and alkenes and discuss the use of Raman spectroscopy for lead identification and reaction optimization.
