This lecture will discuss the ideas of secular Jewish nationalism in Russian Empire in the context of the intellectual fermentation of its epoch. It will include examining the links between the writings of Jewish nationalists (for example, of Simon Dubnov and Zeev Jabotinsky) and the publicistic works of leaders of other nationalist movements in the Russian Empire and viewing Jewish national rhetoric and national ideology through the prism of secularization and of contemporaries’ works.
