A Landscape of Divergences

Persevering in an academic podcast requires both optimism and a certain degree of hubris. This presentation will describe my own experiences beginning an academic podcast for educated laypeople that explores biblical and Second Temple texts ("Understanding Sin and Evil"). It will include both what I have learned about the potential of this medium for ongoing education as well as exploring the challenges particular to it.

How do we stay true to an academic approach while reaching listeners of different backgrounds through digital media? How can we reach the listeners who are interested in such an "esoteric" topic? How do we engage our listeners and keep the old new without the benefit of a classroom setting? I will discuss my own approach but also hope to open the floor to a fruitful discussion of how we can use digital media to widen the circle of those who benefit from academic discourse.
