Just across from the Acropolis there was a 2,000 year old Jewish community that had thrived and prospered through the centuries. Completely intergrated with their neighbors the community boasted of two temples and a rich culture that dated back to the Babylonian exile. While half of the community spoke Ladino and traced their roots back to Spain, the other half, the Romaniote or Roman Jews were the direct descendants of the Jews of the 2nd temple of Jerusalem. In March 1944 the occupying Germans rounded up all the Jews in their synagogue and eventually sent their captives straight to Auschwitz where a handful survived. In this documentary, the author explores the lives of her relatives before and after the war. Through video interviews, artifacts, diaries, and old photos, a forgoten world comes to life.
