Background: Patients’ satisfaction from medical treatment is becoming a significant parameter in the assessment of health care quality. Lately, a 15 items questionnaire assessing parameters perceived by patients as indicators for good anesthesia was developed and validated. (1)
Objective: The aim of this study was to validate a Hebrew version of the questionnaire and to assess parameters perceived by patients as indicators of quality in anesthesia.
Methods: Elective patients filled the questionnaire in the first 24 hours following surgery.
Internal reliability of the questionnaire, and test re-test was calculated.
Results: 131, ASA 1-3 patients, filled in the questionnaire. Patient’s age was 60.7±16.5 years (Mean±SD), 76 were men and 55 were women. Internal consistency of the questionnaire calculated using Cronbach`s α was 0.82. Test re-test analysis (filling the questionnaire twice by the same patient within few hours) performed in 47 patients showed no difference in the answers to 13/15 questionnaire items. Patient validation of the perception of quality in anesthesia (PQA) performed usingי eigenvalue decomposition with the Varimax orthogonal rotation revealed that the most important questionnaire items are related to the “anesthetist understandable”, “concerns addressed”, “confidence in anesthetist”, “gentleness”, “amount of information.” Conclusion:In this study, a Hebrew version of the questionnaire was validated. The analysis of the data shows the importance of the relationship between the patient and anesthesiologist. Feedback from the questionnaire can lead to improved patient experience.
