Introduction: Standardized mortalite ratio (SMR) and re-admission rate (RAR) are two of supposed quality assessments (QA) of ICUs.
Objective: SMR and RAR sub-analysis may also provide additional data beyond QA.
Method: Data of 347 ICU patients, tertiary-center-mixed-type, were analyzed for QA; all weighted by APACHE-II scores and stratified by diagnosis.
Results: SMR was calculated as
Conclusion: In mixed-type ICUs sub-analysis of SMR/RAR data could provide us valuable clues not only for QA but also for; (a) patients’ risk stratification, (b) priority, (c) intensity and length of treatment; for a safe discharge and lower mortality. At respect; be aware of; (1) patients from outer-centers, (2) males at 60s-70s, (3) with primarily respiratory diagnosis. Even in an ICU that can be accounted as good at SMR and RAR, no time to relax at all.
