Dysfunctions of attention, memory and concentration are common complaints in daily adult neurological practice. In some cases the evaluation ends with a diagnosis of ADHD. There isn’t much information about ADHD in adults especially from non-hospital clinics.

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the application`s motives, expectations and satisfaction from treatment and its safety for adult ADHD patients in conditions of general neurological clinic.

The adult ADHD patients answered a questioner of expectations and satisfaction of the treatment. ADHD diagnosis was made according to DSM V criteria.

59 ADHD patients were seen: 31-newly diagnosed and 28- follow ups. 33 males and 26 females, median age for the newly diagnosed - 58 y, and for the follow ups -24 y, a third of the patients have higher education. The main motives were: yearning to improve the learning capability (61%), professional dissatisfaction (54%), a demand of the spouse (10%) and personal dissatisfaction in their private lives (10%). The most common expectations were: improved learning and professional capabilities (70% and 46% accordingly), house and budget management (26%).The reported improvement was the largest at the learning and professional areas.

The side effects were: decreased appetite (39%), sleep and mood disorders, and dry mouth (32% each).

The conditions of a general neurological clinic are allowing diagnosis and an effective and safe medical ADHD treatment. Without non-medical therapy, a significant part of the ADHD symptoms will not receive response and treatment.
