Carbon quantum dots (CD) are carbon based Nano materials that exhibit good photoluminescence and low photobleaching, also CDs display semiconductor-like photoelectric properties, CDs possess great superb qualities relatively simple synthesis, unique structure, adjustable composition, ease of surface functionalization, outstanding electron-transfer efficiency and tunable light-harvesting range (from deep UV to the near-infrared). [1,2]

Ultraviolet radiation’s effect on biological systems is very widely studied, specifically, Ultraviolet B (UV-B) radiation, a very small fraction of the daylight spectrum, cause changes in plant secondary metabolism that have large effects on plant-insect interactions. The signal transduction pathways that mediate these specific effects of solar UV-B are not known, it is thus very important to have the ability to estimate the amount of UV radiation in agricultural systems in a precise and nondestructive way [3,4]

Herein we present a facile synthesis for UV light sensitive carbon dots derived from methyl viologen and glucose for further use an UV sensor for agricultural systems.
