introduction

hydronephrosis is an enlargement of the renal pelvis. This disorder is the most common of urinary tract defects. Diagnosis of pelvic enlargement is performed during the first ultrasound review during pregnancy in weeks 12-16..

About 25% of the pre-natal cases will be self-treated and will not appear after the birth. In addition, most of the cases that will be expressed after the birth will also pass independently without affecting kidney function.

as part of post-natal follow-up and treatment, non-invasive and invasive tests are performed as well as antibiotic treatment is given for urinary tract infections for prevention

material and methods

The study is retrospective based on tests at Poriya Hospital for children in the Eastern Galilee region diagnosed with prenatal renal expansion between 2005 and 2016.

results

The study examined children born between the years 2005-2016, and were diagnosed with hydronephrosis in prenatal screening. In the ultrasound screening after delivery, we can see that the number of the cases of hydronephrosis have been decreased, in the first ultrasound examination after 3 days of birth most of the cases were unilateral with an emphasis on the left kidney Invasive imaging: MAG3 mapping, and cystography, were needed in minority number of the cases

conclusions

There is a significant reduction in the number of hydronephrosis cases during the first year of life. In addition, only a small percentage of cases appear to be useful in invasive testing.
