Background: Mitral clip implantation is considered as a possible therapy in symptomatic patients with severe MR. We sought to evaluate the impact of clip implantation on prehospitalization due to cardiovascular reasons.
Methods: We studied a cohort of 52 patients who underwent Mitral Clip implantation in our Clinic between October 2015 and December 2017. We evaluated immediate results; 30 days and 1 year follow up. We compared hospitalization rates prior to the procedure and the year after.
Results: 52 patients we screened, the mean age was 73.16 years, 76.5% - were males and we excluded 10 patients who died one year after the procedure. Our final cohort included 42 patients. 36 patients were hospitalized due to cardiac reasons in the year before the procedure. Only 14 patients were hospitalized in the year after mitral clip intervention. The average number of hospitalization was decreased from 1.38 ±1.1 to 0.42 ± 1.1 after the procedure of the mitral clip.
Conclusions: Mitral Clip therapy decreases hospitalizations among patients with severe MR and should be considered in symptomatic patients.
