A Fully Implantable Device for Continuous Removal of Systemic Fluid Overload

Paragate Medical improves clinical condition of fluids overloaded patients by continuously removing extracellular fluids with a unique implantable peritoneal ultrafiltration device, preventing fluids accumulation and the associated symptoms. Pathologic fluid overload is a major problem and cause of clinical distress in growing epidemics of heart failure (HF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is associated with shortness of breath, peripheral edema, ascites and the need for frequent hospitalizations for intravenous excess diuretics and dialyses. There is a significant clinical need for efficient, cost effective device that is capable of continuous preventing accumulation of excess systemic extracellular fluid. By utilizing the intraperitoneal membrane’s properties and through a unique absorption chamber, Paragate’s fully implantable and minimally invasive device can continuously and moderately absorb the systemic extracellular fluid and drain it to the urinary system, independently of the kidneys, without interfacing circulation.
