The Role of Khel Mahakumbh in Creating a Sports Culture in Gujarat

Gujarat’s model of sports development aims to create a sporting culture in the state by integrating sports and education, latent talent identification all round development of personality and improved self-esteem especially for women. It aims to promote incentivized sports eco system for all stake holders like players, coaches, schools, academies, etc., and revive the fast receding traditional sports of the nation like -Kabaddi, Kho Kho and Chess. Besides launching varied schemes for multiple stakeholders, the state government has established Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, which is the pioneer in establishing the Human Performance Fitness Assessment Mobile lab in India. The presentation presents Khel Mahakumbh, the annual sporting event of Gujarat, in this context.
