Learning Objectives: At the completion of this session, participants will be able to

  1. List objectives for training medical students, psychiatry residents and other clinical trainees regarding ADHD throughout the lifespan
  2. Describe how to put together lectures and case presentations to facilitate knowledge acquisition
  3. Describe how to establish and manage a resident specialty clinic devoted to the care of adults with ADHD and related disorders
  4. Describe how to establish and manage a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship clinic devoted to the care of children and youth with complex ADHD and related disorders (e.g. Autism Spectrum, Tourette Syndrome)

Synopsis of session:

Dr. Rostain has over 30 years of experience as a faculty member at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He lectures to medical students, psychiatry residents, child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, pediatric residents and nursing students about the care of ADHD patients across the lifespan. Dr. Rostain has also created several teaching clinics in which residents and fellows are supervised as they evaluated and manage patients with ADHD and related disorders. He will discuss how to create learning experiences to train young physicians, nurses and other health professionals in state-of-the-art care of ADHD patients. Strategies for preparing didactic teaching materials, journal club sessions and case presentations will be shared. He will also describe how to provide ongoing clinical supervision regarding the management of complex cases.
