ENS is the largest society for nuclear science, research and industry in Europe. For more than 40 years it has been promoting the advancement of nuclear science, research and engineering to its members, policy makers and the general public.
ENS federates 21 Nuclear Societies from countries with very different approaches to energy policy. Altogether ENS regroups 10,000 nuclear professionals.
ENS is the voice of the scientific and technological nuclear community. It highlights nuclear expertise and knowledge and acts as an advocate for nuclear technology.
A crucial component of ENS is its network of corporate members, including industrial members, research institutes and other stakeholders, providing a vital bridge between science and industry.
The ENS Young Generation connects all Young Generation Networks of the Member Societies. Its officers represent the network often in high level international meetings.
The ENS High Scientific Council supports the Society in its role as an advocate for nuclear technology. It brings together 15 scientists from 11 Countries, who critically review the current situation of science and technology in the fields of interest for ENS and issue position statements on relevant issues.
The Mission of ENS and its activities in education, training and knowledge management are explained and discussed. ENS has become a recognized partner of the European Commission and its Joint Research Center.
As a credible information provider ENS counts an average of 120,000 visitors per month on its website, promoting the understanding of nuclear issues and promoting public awareness; last but not least, ENS provides opportunities for knowledge exchange and networking at its scientific conferences and provides support to the conferences of its Member Societies.

In a second part of the talk, the current status and future trends of nuclear power in the EU are presented, based on the European Commission´s Indicative Program, a periodic review mandated by the EURATOM Treaty
