Functional and Esthetic Rehabilitation of 5 yrs Old Patient with Early Childhood Caries: Case Report

Backgrounds: Early childhood caries (ECC) is one of the most common disease for infants and schoolchildren. ECC results in destruction of the anterior and posterior teeth. ECC could lead to decrease masticatory efficiency, speech problems, compromised esthetics, and malocclusions. Functional and esthetic rehabilitation of ECC could be a challenge to pediatric dentist, particularly in young pediatric patient.

Case Reports: A male patient, age 5 years old with ECC was referred to Alia Dental Care (pediatric dental clinic). Mother report that his son has problems when chewing hard foods, sometimes he complains pain during meal time. A combination of restorative approaches and techniques was used including pulpotomy with LA, posterior teeth glass ionomer hybrid (EQUIA) restoration, preformed strip crown composite, and preformed metal crown. Treatment was completed in multiple visits with non-pharmacological behavior management approach.

Conclusions: Functional and esthetic rehabilitation of 5 year old patient with ECC could be completed in multiple visits with non-pharmacological behavior management approach. Functional and esthetic rehabilitation contributes towards the improvement of dental health and psychological wellbeing of patients
