Near-IR Wide Field-of-View Huygens Metalens

Jacob Engelberg Department of Applied Physics, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel

We have designed, manufactured and characterized a Huygens-antenna based metalens designed for a nominal wavelength of 850nm. The lens is designed for photographic/surveillance applications, with a moderate aperture of F/2.5, wide field-of-view (FOV) of approximately ±15˚, and focal length of 3.36mm. The realization of the metalens is based on low-aspect ratio cylindrical silicon nano-posts on a glass substrate. We performed thorough characterization of the metalens and compared to simulation results, including resolution and efficiency at different spectral widths and off-axis points. We hope this research will provide insight for additional possible future applications, such as microscope objective, fiber collimator, light collection or other types of lenses.
