Abstract

Background.. Until now ECC (Early Chilhood Caries) is still a serious problem and still difficult to overcome. The cause is various microorganism in the oral cavity, mainly Streptococcus mutans. One way to prevent ECC is to provide protection on the deciduous teeth.The solution is create a safe, cheap, easy of dental protective. One such ingredient is the coffee beans skin. The coffee beans skin is usually thrown away, but it contains bioactive components that can be used for health. Previously we have done research of coffee beans skin such as amino acid content, bioactive content. We also proved that the coffee beans skin inhibits the growth of S. mutans, increasing of viability of monocytes and neutrophils, reduce proinflammatory cytokines. Objectives. This writing to examine theoretically about the coffee beans skin as dental protective to prevent caries occurrence of Early Chilhood Caries. Discussion. The components of the coffee beans skin (flavonoids, xanthine, antioxidants, alkaloids, polyphenols), amino acids (Leucine-Isoleucine, valine, tyrosin, Arginine, methionine, proline, Phenylalanine) as immunomodulatory, antiinflammatory, antibacterial and platelet aggregation effects. The coffee beans skin contains minerals such as Calcium, Phosphorous which are important role for teeth. All of these ingredients can prevent bacterial attachment to the teeth, kill bacteria and increase body immunity, so it is suspected to prevent the occurrence of Early Chilhood Caries. Our hope will make dental protective fluid as a mouthwash or liquid applied to the teeth. Conclusions. The coffee beans skin has a chance as a teeth protector in the Early Chilhood Caries.
