Comprehensive Care of Early Childhood Caries in Uncooperative Toddler (Case Report)

Background: Early childhood caries (ECC) is a comprehensive carious situation that rapidly attacks the teeth of children, in a short time involving multiple teeth. Uncooperative toddler always refuse or apathy to the treatment. The purpose of this study is to describe the comprehensive care of Early Childhood Caries in deciduous teeth in oral cavity until it was succeeded or replaced with permanent teeth. Psychological approach is necessary for this toddler to shape their behavior to be cooperative and communicative.

Methods: The case was about a 4 year old-girl, who suffered of ECC in her anterior and posterior teeth both maxilla and mandibula. He was reluctant to brush her teeth and loved to eat the sweet food such as chocolate and candy. She was afraid to go to dentist and refused to open her mouth in the clinic

Psychological approach was conducted to her and finally doctor could do the treatment. Treatment of early childhood caries conducted comprehensively and dental health education with evaluation regularly was implemented in each visit

Results: Comprehensive care could be implemented successfully and influenced by the cooperativeness among dentists, pediatric patients, their parents and clinical ability and handling abilities of children as well.

Conclusions: ECC in uncooperative toddler could be treated by dentist with comprehensive care and psychological approach
