Brushing teeth is an activity that children need to be socialized at an early age, especially in children with mental retardation. Because of limitations of limitations of the mentally retarded child in the theoretical intellect, work and do normal things done in any other normal child, needed special guidance in maintaining their oral hygiene. The purpose of this study to determine whether there is any effect of tooth brushing training conducted in children with mental retardation inYogyakarta Indonesia.
Type of research is a Quasi Experiment, which is a study that did not use a control class for comparison. Quasi Experiment research design used is One-Time Series Design Group, which is the treatment carried out a series of studies on the same subject. In research conducted in SLB C in Yogyakarta Indonesia. The study subjects consisted of 43 students with mental retardation. Data was collected with a checklist calculation plaque index score based on PHP (Personal Hygiene Performance). The statistical test used to use test paired sample t-test.
The results showed there is a significant effect on the reduction of training brushing plaque index scores in students with mental retardation , which shows that significant value (p<0.05). The Conclusion showed that training brushing can reduce plaque index scores in children with mental retardation in SLB C in Yogyakarta Indonesia.
