The lock approach channel is an important navigable building connecting the river channel and the lock, which is the primary condition for the smooth crossing of the ship. However, it is easy to produce a series of complex flow problems which are not conducive to navigating the ship due to the complex boundary conditions of the entrance channel. In this paper, the mathematical model and the physical model are used to study the water flow characteristics of the entrance area of approach channel. The results shows that the local position of the lock channel is a triangular recirculation zone, the right side of the channel center line is the oblique flow area, and the flow of the connecting channel is smooth and no bad flow is generated.
