ABSTRACT Bangladesh is situated in the lower riparian country of the Padma, Jamuna and Meghna river basin. Every year huge amount of sediment is flowing with the flood water and deposited in the Bay of Bengal. But it is interesting to note that some portion of sediment are deposited in the river bed resulting decreasing the river conveyance capacity and river bank erosion. Government has taken initiative by implementing project to reduce the river bank erosion, land reclamation and navigational channel improvement. For this purpose, Bamboo Bandalling Structures are constructed before the last flood monsoon of the year 2017 under the project named “ River Bank Erosion Protection of the Old Brahmaputra and Dashani River Using Bamboo Bandalling Structures in the Upazila of Jamalpur Sadar, Melandah and Islampur under Jamalpur District, Bangladesh”. As per the planned trial or test activities, there is good achievement so that huge amount of sediment is deposited behind the constructed bamboo bandals resulting the river bank erosion, land reclamation and navigational channel improvement.
