Protein aggregation of amyloids is associated with numerous incurable diseases, including amylin in Type 2 diabetes (T2D), amyloid β (Aβ) in Alzheimer`s disease (AD) and α-synuclein in Parkinson`s disease (PD). Structure-based characterization of the interactions between two types of amyloids is fundamental to understanding the self-assembly mechanism that exists between them and may pave the way to elucidate the link between diseases (e.g. T2D, PD and AD). Targeting these amyloids by insulin will be presented. A new mechanistic perspective on the effect of insulin on amyloid aggregation and may pave the way towards pharmacological intervention in this process.
