Mono-substituted imidazolinX-2-iminato hafnium(IV) (X=iPr, tBu, Mesityl, Dipp) complexes were synthesized and used as catalysts for the Ring-Opening Polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone. ImDippNHfBn3 was further studied for ROP of rac-Lactide to obtain polylactic acid (PLA) and in the PCL-b-PLA block copolymerization. In addition, the complexes ImDippNHfY3 (Y=OBn, OiPr) were synthesized to confirm the identification of the polymer end groups. Further investigation has shown the ability of these complexes to perform catalytic addition of various nucleophiles into diverse carbodiimides.
