Flooding from overflowing rivers is a recurring problem in Peru causing losses; This is due to the seasonality of rainfall in the Andean region, which has a dry season and another distinct rains, coupled with years of El NiƱo make the river flows increase its magnitude causing overflows, reason why it is important to identify areas at risk to subsequently generate overflows risk management plans. The low river basin Coata - Puno constantly suffers from overflow, for the foregoing and low topography of the area, which causes loss of infrastructure, areas of cultivation, etc. populations located in this stretch of the river. To solve this problem in the present work areas or areas at risk to floods and the vulnerability of the population living in that area will be identified. In the present work from maximum precipitation at different periods added to some features of the basin return the maxima different return periods flow was calculated, to determine the reliability of the model was calibrated with the aid of data recorded in situ in a hydrometric station. Then from peak flows at different return periods, combined with the topographic area the behavior of the riverbed, which will help identify areas that are at risk Coata overflowing river was simulated.
