Peru is a country with a diverse geography that confers diverse climatic characteristics. The economic and accessibility limitations to the different geographic areas has limited the collection of meteorological information. In Peru, there are few pluviometric records and even less pluviografic records. That is why there are few researches on high intensity rainfall frequencies. The common practice of local engineering is to use empirical relationships between short-term intensities and rainfall, such as Bell (1969) and Chen (1983). Being the aforementioned relationships established for other regional conditions. Being the aforementioned relationships established for other regional conditions. The objective of this work is to establish a relationship between high intensity rainfall and daily rainfall records in order to perform intensity-duration and frequency analysis for local conditions. To carry out the study, the Mantaro River Basin was chosen, characterized by high intensity rainfall and pluviometric and pluviograph information available. Rain and pluviometric information record of the Huayao Station was collected with an extension of more than 30 years. The pluviogramas were previously processed in Matlab. Subsequently, a correlation was made with the rainfall information in 24 hours and the hourly intensities obtained from the pluviograms. The information was also compared with the relationships proposed by Bell in 1969, Chen in 1983 and the IILA-SENAMHI-UNI method in 1982. It is concluded that the relationship developed produces more realistic results, for the regional conditions, than the others. The relationship can be applied in the design of urban drainage works, for example storm drains and other hydraulic structures.
