When the outlet with high head and short pressure is discharging, the "geyser" generated in the open channel and downstream will impact the buildings nearby and cause vibration damage, which can affect the normal operation of hydro-junction.Concerning on the unfavorable hydraulic phenomenon of "geyser" generated in outlet discharging with high head and short pressure for a hydro-junction, transient flow field for "geyser” occurring is simulated by air-water two phase flow model ,then the whole process from aeration of water flow to the generation of "geyser “ and trajectories and pressure changes of gas are analyzed, and the generation mechanism of "geyser" in high-speed aerated flow is revealed, so the response relationship between air entrainment, flow and bottom gas cavity morphology and "geyser" phenomenon is established in order to determine the optimum aeration quantity without cavitation erosion and "geyser" phenomenon. The research results can provide reference for the study of other geyser phenomena in hydraulic engineering.
