Coal is an important mineral resource and it is also a primary energy source used in China. It has a wide range of applications in all walks of life. Coal mining, washing, conversion, processing and utilization not only promote social and economic development, but also cause harm to the environment. Coal consumption is closely related to water resources. On the one hand, water resources are affected by coal consumption. On the other hand, water resources are also a limiting factor for coal consumption. Due to the reverse distribution of China`s coal resources and water resources, the contradiction between supply and demand between coal and water resources. Therefore, this paper mainly collects the water consumption of coal in the whole cycle, so as to obtain the water consumption of coal in all stages of the whole cycle. For example, the coal intake in the mining and washing stage is 1.5 billion m3; according to the coal supply balance Select industries that require higher coal, such as thermal power enterprises, coal chemical industry, and steel industry. The water consumption in the thermal power industry is 2.45 cubic meters per megawatt hour, and in the coal chemical industry, the conversion of 1 ton of coal requires about 10 tons to 15 tons of water, the new water consumption per ton of steel in the steel industry is 3.50m3 / t. This paper also proposes corresponding water-saving measures through the study of the whole-cycle water consumption mechanism of coal.
