Evidence-based medicine and big-data analyses can change the perspective, knoweledge and management of different diseases, classicaly those that affect large numbers of patients. However, the applicability of such approaches in diseases with lower incidence, and especially in rare disorders, is questionable, certainly when randomization in clinical studies is limited- as in the case of diseases treated by surgical interventions or when randomization isn`t ethical. If so, can such approaches be implemented for adult congenital heart diseases?

In this presentation, the field of adult congenital heart diseases will be reviewed through the prism of the Cochrane gold standarad approach: Limitiations towards implementation of evidence-based analyses and big-data evaluations will be presented, along with the possible oppourtunities these number-driven approaches hold for this unique field.
