There are not so many plants that caught that much of attention like Cannabis.
An article published in Popular Mechanics in 1938 claimed Hemp as the New Billion-Dollar Crop. Claiming to have thousands of potential applications, there seemed to be no limit on how and where Hemp could be used. Yet, less than a year after this publication, the US government restricted the use of Hemp that essentially killed the entire industry.
Searching Cannabis or Hemp on SciFinder shows more than twice as much scientific data regarding cannabis as a raw material of fabrics, textiles, dyes, plastic, paper etc. than on pharmaceutical uses.
Industrial uses of Hemp will be discussed and sources of information for analytical methods will be described.
