The province of Córdoba is located in the center of the Argentine Republic, in a semi-arid region. Nowadays there are water supply problems for the eastern and central areas of the province of Córdoba, and the Greater Córdoba. On the other hand, the flows of the Rio Suquia that currently provide the Greater Cordoba, and those of the Rio Tercero or Ctalamochita, which at present provide the main aqueduct that allows supplying the Northeast and East of the Province of Córdoba, are at the limit of their capacity and do not allow to project their use for other destinations (such as supplying Sierras Chicas or expanding the areas provided by the aqueduct system of the east and provincial center).

In addition, the Province of Santa Fe (bordering Córdoba) is currently in full construction of its System of Large Aqueducts. In total there are 12 works of great magnitude to provide water to the 362 towns in Santa Fe. Some of these works are under construction and others are under study. When some of these aqueducts are visualized, along with those existing in the Province of Córdoba, it is possible to observe that two of them are very close to existing aqueducts in our province, they are: Aqueduct North 1 - Diversion Arijón and Aqueduct North 2 - River Coronda

On the side of the Province of Córdoba in the east area is the: Villa Maria Aqueduct - San Francisco - Morteros (among other locations).

Within this panorama, collaboration between the two provinces to solve water supply problems is considered as a factor of joint development and collaboration strategy.

The project seeks to provide short-term water available east of Cordoba and west of Santa Fe at the height of route 19 and provincial route 13 and medium-term for the Center and North of the province of Córdoba, and the Greater Córdoba.

This work first involves the identification of populations with unmet water needs, the determination of populations and growth. Then, two alternatives were proposed, Acueducto Norte 1 - Desvío Arijón and Acueducto Norte 2 - Río Coronda. The studies raised the need for important pumping stations since the province of Córdoba has a general slope from west to east.
