With You All the Way

Sarit Doodai Muli Rubin
Facilitator, Village Way Educational Initiatives

Background: Adolescence is a time of uncertainty and fear about the future: fear of being alone, fear of the unknown, fear of lack of life skills to cope with life`s transitions and challenges. These fears are intensified in youth at risk.

It is important to create continuity between the past, present and future which imparts a sense of stability and security, enabling growth and development. This can be done by establishing "Anchors in the Future", or developing the idea of a possible future and fostering life skills that will help transform this future into an achievable life path. The educational community also continues to serve as a support system in the future, during crises, celebrations and transitions. The connection with the graduates serves an equally important role for the current students, for who the graduates become role models. Dr. Chaim Peri used to say that "every dollar invested in a graduate is worth ten dollars invested in a student."

Objectives:

  1. Understanding the paradigm: Tomorrow is already here -the future affects the present.
  2. Learning about the "Connections" Program for graduates

A central dilemma for discussion: Between dependence and independence.

Texts:

  1. Victor Frankel `A prisoner whose faith has been lost.`
  2. It Takes a Village, Dotan Levi, "The future is already here."
